About Physician Dragon

We are both practicing physicians in busy Emergency Departments in Dayton, Ohio. Several years ago, we were asked to become Physician Champions for our respective Emergency Departments and participate in the preparation and integration of the Epic EHR into our health care system. We discovered early on that physicians wanted other options for documenting encounters in addition to Epic SmartTools. We decided to use Speech Enabled documentation with Dragon Medical. It offered great speed, amazing accuracy and had a “roaming user” function that was essential. Dragon Medical commands also allowed for certain Epic functions to be performed automatically.

Over the past several years, we have created and refined a large set of dictation templates and Dragon voice commands that have made documentation in Epic quick and efficient. We have experienced 100% adoption among the physicians that we have worked with. To date, we have helped physicians complete hundreds of thousands of dictations using Dragon Medical and our SmartLibrary of custom documentation templates and Dragon commands. The transcription savings at Miami Valley Hospital ED alone was 1.4 million dollars per year.
